Cameron started her career as a real estate broker and ventured into flipping houses before moving to short-term rental properties. She finds the most rewarding aspect of her job to be renovating and furnishing properties, as well as providing exceptional travel experiences to her guests. Cameron uses HostGPO to furnish her homes, including her 13 new and stunning cabins located in Boone, North Carolina.
How many years have you been in the short term rental industry and how did you get started?
I have been in the industry for over a year now. I used to be a real estate broker, and after I gained the knowledge and experience in the real estate industry, I decided to start flipping houses. After a few successful house flips, I was eager to take on a bigger challenge. That’s when I moved into the world of short-term rental properties, or STRs.
What do you find most rewarding about your career?
Seeing properties come to life through renovation and furnishings is a rewarding experience. Not to mention, offering exceptional travel experiences for our guests is the best.
What is your favorite rental property you have and why do you love it?
I love the incredible views from the new beach house. The large windows in the living room allow plenty of natural light to come in, and the balcony overlooks the ocean – it’s absolutely stunning! The beach is just steps away, so it’s easy to take a quick dip or just relax in the sun. The area is also great for activities like kayaking, fishing, and swimming. Inside, the beach house is stylishly decorated and has all the amenities I need to make it a relaxing stay.
What’s the craziest story you have from hosting?
Which to pick?! Our first STR was quite the experience. Underage guests threw a house party, causing neighbor complaints and the police to be called. We didn’t sleep for 36 hours until the guests were eventually escorted out and they had actually left the house in the cleanest condition we have ever seen – crazy!
What’s one “pro-tip” you’d be willing to pass on to the community?
Absorb as much content as you can on a daily basis and if you have the resources to invest in yourself and a mastermind – surround yourself with others doing more / better things than you are so you are learning every day!
