Aruna and Joe McDermott are the proud owners and operators of the Cottages of Cape Cod (@cottagesofcapecod on Instagram); six short term rentals located in Cape Cod, Massachusetts with stunning views of the sunset from the waters edge. Aruna and Joe have been renting for 25 years now and they often visit and reside in their own rentals, which is imperative to see where improvements are needed and to show potential guests that the rental is up to Host standards. What do you find most rewarding about your career?

We absolutely love providing top-notch vacations for our guests and getting to know some of them. We also enjoyed building the business.

What is your favorite rental property you have and why do you love it?

Our favorite is a Lakeshore Cottage. It is also where we live eight months out of the year and rent it in for July and August.Our second favorite would be Sundance Cottage.

What's the craziest story you have from hosting?

We try to keep the crazy down. :-)

What's one "pro-tip" you'd be willing to pass on to the community?

Don’t use “hand me down” furniture. Go as high end as you can afford. It will always pay off.

What's the most recent item that you can remember that you've ordered from HostGPO?

Sheets from Standard Textile. I have also ordered from Pottery Barn and Williams-Sonoma!
