Our members, Mackenzie and Kari, co-owners of the mid-century modern Pelican Hill House located in the small Northern California getaway town of Jenner, with breathtaking views of the Pacific Ocean and Russian River recently did our member spotlight interview and sent in some pictures of a TV cabinet and slotted coffee table she purchased through our West Elm discount program that beautifully complete their living room. We trust our interview with her will interest our readers and hopefully give our members some good decorating ideas for their own vacation rentals!
How many years have you been in the short term rental industry and how did you get started?
Mackenzie has been in the corporate world of events for 10 years (with a dabbling in wedding planning). Kari has been an interior designer and flipping houses for over 30 years. We dreamed of purchasing and designing the perfect getaway for years. We searched high and low for a house that feels like home, a sanctuary from the hustle of everyday life, a little luxurious escape. We are having so much fun hosting and would love to open more STRs in the near future!
What do you find most rewarding about your career?
The most rewarding thing about hosting is curating an unforgettable experience for our guests. Our goal is to create a relaxing and serene getaway so people can unplug & recharge. When designing our home, we tried to think of everything a guest would want or need. We even thought of where the outlets should be. We employed our family members and friends to test and vote on the amenities. From the towels to the shampoo, we want to provide our guests with the very best. No detail is too small to be overlooked.
What is your favorite rental property you have and why do you love it?
We may be biased but we love Pelican Hill House (@pelicanhillhouse). We fell in love with the quaint enclave of Jenner on the California Coast many years ago. When we found our property, the sweeping views of the Russian River and Pacific Ocean stole our hearts and we couldn’t wait to put an offer in. We knew all the home needed was our magic touch.
What’s one “pro-tip” you’d be willing to pass on to the community?
PRO-TIP: Using Host-GPO helped us to stay within budget while purchasing quality furniture that will last. We don’t have to worry about replacing as many items because of Host-GPO!
What’s the most recent item that you can remember that you’ve ordered from HostGPO?
The most recent items we ordered via HostGPO were a slotted coffee table and the perfect TV cabinet for our extensive DVD collection. Both are from West Elm and feel like they were made for the space.
