How many years have you been in the short term rental industry and how did you get started?
About 2.5 years and I started learning about real estate after I was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in early 2015. After I recovered I started learning as much as I can and after I listened to Avery Carl on BiggerPockets podcast I reached out to her and bought my first STR.
What do you find most rewarding about your career?
I love sharing beautifully descried spaces with guests that also appreciate good design.
What is your favorite rental property you have and why do you love it?
The Lazy A Frame. I love the feeling of being in an A-Frame in the woods. Very quiet and you are surrounded by nature.
What’s the craziest story you have from hosting?
A guest threw a party with about 100 people at one of my cabins and a neighbor called me. The sheriff came to shut it down, but I also texted the guests that the sheriff was called by the neighbor and they cleared out quickly. They wound up not even staying at the cabin so it was quite clean!
What’s one “pro-tip” you’d be willing to pass on to the community?
Regularly replace your smart lock batteries because if you miss it a guest could arrive late in the night and not be able to get in!
What’s the most recent item that you can remember that you’ve ordered from HostGPO?
We are renovating 6 cabins currently, so we are ordering a lot. One thing we ordered and are very excited to use is an old stove that is electric and will heat the living room nicely.
