On 55 private acres of land in Sarahsville, Ohio sits The Hideaway; a rural cabin retreat co-owned and managed by Sandy Watson and her family. Sandy does a little bit of everything. In the beginning she was in charge of cabin design and decor, but she heads guest management and social media. The cabin has 4 bedrooms and 3 full bathrooms with vaulted ceilings and an 8-person salt water hot tub. How many years have you been in the short term rental industry and how did you get started?

Since Fall of 2021, so less than a year! My husband and I had been looking for a short term rental opportunity and saw an advantage in the rural cabin demographic with the pandemic and travel changing. We had the opportunity, along with my parents and brother, to purchase the cabin and property from a family friend, and with my passion for design, did a total remodel on the cabin, making it a luxury destination for guests!

What do you find most rewarding about your career?

I love that guests from big cities and other states are traveling to our rural area of Ohio to make memories with their friends and family at our cabin. It has been a lot of work but so rewarding to know people get to enjoy the cabin and property we worked so hard to create!

What is your favorite rental property you have and why do you love it?

The Hideaway! It’s our only property, for now, but it’s a special one!

What’s the craziest story you have from hosting?

Nothing too crazy so far. We did have guests bring a dog when we have a no pet policy and when we showed up to clean, we found muddy dog prints all over our bedding and pillowcases on 4 of the beds.

What’s one “pro-tip” you’d be willing to pass on to the community?

Do not skimp on anything! Invest in nice bedding and towels. Provide amenities like coffee, snacks and bottled water. Those little things go a long way and show that you care about the guests!

What’s the most recent item that you can remember that you’ve ordered from HostGPO?

We ordered all of our bedding and towels from Standard Textile and LOVE them! We also ordered a large rug for our living area!

What would you tell others about whether to join HostGPO?
