Our members, Micaran and Matthew McDermott, may be new to the STR game, but they are coming in hot! They are proud owners of The Salt Houses located in Cape Cod, Massachusetts which are nestled a short walk from the beach and surrounded by local entertainment. Micaran and Matthew recently did our member spotlight interview and told us the shocking way they got started and a super sweet pro-tip they are passing onto the host community!

How many years have you been in the short term rental industry and how did you get started?

It’s always been a big dream of ours and we made that dream a reality when we closed on our first house September of 2020 and just recently closed on our 2nd July of 2021!

What do you find most rewarding about your career?

I LOVE seeing guests make and cherish memories at The Salt House but I also love seeing our properties transform into modern luxury beach houses!

What is your favorite rental property you have and why do you love it?

Our first home, The Salt House will always hold a special place in my heart because it showed my husband and myself just how capable we are! It’s our happy place!

What’s the craziest story you have from hosting?

I don’t have any crazy guest stories yet, however, we did buy the house without ever actually seeing it in person. Due to the pandemic, we only saw it via FaceTime and took a big leap!

What’s one “pro-tip” you’d be willing to pass on to the community?

Treat your properties like a business. Make sure YOU would love to stay at your space too and then everyone else will love it too! We also provide an “oops basket” in the bathroom at the houses filled with toiletries and goodies that guests forget a lot!

What’s the most recent item that you can remember that you’ve ordered from HostGPO?
